Heavy-Duty Electric Drive Axle

Overview
Hirain introduces its single-motor and dual-motor parallel-axis heavy-duty electric drive axle (e-axle), specifically engineered for 1000V platform. The combination of these two e-axle variants effectively meets the powertrain application requirements of 4×2 and 6×4 heavy-duty tractors. Paired with Hirain's 1000V high-voltage SiC motor control platform and advanced e-axle control strategy, the system delivers significant advantages, including robust power, lightweight, high efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

Key Features/Technologies

  • The dual-motor e-axle delivers maximum wheel-end torque of ≥43,100 Nm, peak power of 520 kW, and rated power of 340 kW, with gross weight of approximately 930 kg. The single-motor e-axle provides maximum wheel-end torque of ≥34,500 Nm, peak power of 260 kW, and rated power of 170 kW, with gross weight of approximately 880kg.
  • Compatible with both disc and drum brakes, as well as leaf spring and air suspension systems. Customers can choose between maintenance-free or non-maintenance-free bearings. A differential lock is offered as standard on all models. Power take-off (PTO) unit is optional for gearboxes on both sides, supporting multi-PTO configurations and enabling power take-off during both driving (mobile) and parking (stationary) operations.
  • The standard-load 49 t, 6×4 heavy-duty tractor equipped with Hirain’s e-axles (configured one dual-motor and one single-motor e-axle) can achieve peak wheel-end torque of ≥77,000 Nm, peak power of 780 kW, and rated power of 510 kW. The vehicle boasts maximum speed of ≥120 km/h, maximum gradeability of ≥30%, and sustained speed of ≥70 km/h on 4% gradient. The overall efficiency under CHTC-TT could reach ≥91%.
  • A full cylindrical helical gear two-speed AMT and a reducer are symmetrically attached on both sides of the axle. The configuration could offer balanced center of gravity, high reliability, light weight, low cost, high transmission efficiency, and maximized regenerative braking energy recovery. Both gearboxes feature can realize power decoupling. No power interruption during gear shift. Active and passive lubrication are combined to minimize churning losses.
  • The system utilizes platform-based, oil-cooled, flat-wire high-speed Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) designed for heavy-duty conditions. An oil spray ring is applied to achieve comprehensive cooling without dead zones. Cleanliness is ensured through dual-filtration and externally mounted carbon brushes. Shaft current solution is compatible with 1500V platform in the future.
  • Equipped with Hirain’s power domain controller, the e-axle implements stability assurance strategies for complex operating conditions, including adaptive torque control, intelligent gear shift strategy, predictive coasting control. Hill-hold assist, electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD), and thermal management strategy are also integrated.
