Steer-by-Wire (SbW)
The Steer-by-Wire (SbW) system replaces the traditional mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the wheels with an electronic system. It converts the driver’s steering input into electrical signals that control the steering mechanism for precise, responsive handling. SbW technology enhances operational safety and convenience, allowing for more accurate vehicle control by reducing direct human intervention. However, with the removal of the traditional steering column, ensuring the safety and reliability of SbW systems remains a significant focus.
HiRain Technologies’ SbW solution consists of a Steering Wheel Actuator (SWA) and a Road Wheel Actuator (RWA), both designed with full redundancy and master-slave control for enhanced reliability. The system is developed in compliance with ISO 26262 (functional safety) and DIN 70065 (degradation mode), leveraging HiRain’s extensive expertise in safety and reliability engineering.
